Meet the Foxens! It’s a cool dude this week.
Hello, hello everyone. Going to change it up this week, we’ve seen far too many Foxen ladies on this blog. This week we bring you Jon!
Hey how’s it going?
What is your position at Foxen?
I’m a Tasting Room Associate, just got bumped up to Full Time not too long ago.
That’s awesome! How long have you been at Foxen?
Almost a year now, pretty excited about that.
What is your favorite Foxen wine?
Easily the Tinaquaic Cabernet Franc. It’s not a hard wine to love.
What do you love most about wine?
I love how wine is forever changing. Whether it’s in the bottle or the different ways people go about making wine, it never remains the same.
What is your all time favorite food and wine pairing?
I had a 2011 Foxen Chenin blanc paired with a Cajun jambalaya. The acidity and crispness of the Chenin Blanc with the spiciness of the jambalaya. Mind-blowing.
Dang, you’re making me hungry!
What is your favorite local and non-local restaurant?
Locally I’m a huge fan of Rancho Nipomo. Unheard of to anyone except locals but the food is insanely good! My non-local favorite would be Alize at the top of the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. Some of the best French food I’ve ever tasted.
What grape varietal best represents your personality?
Why is that?
I like to think it represents my personality because like Pinot you can make anything from a light crisp white to a heavy bold red. Like me where I’m full ranged. I can be anywhere from laid back and relaxed to outgoing and crazy.
Where are some places that you have lived other than the Central Coast?
Sin City! It’s the only other place other than Santa Maria that I’ve lived. I do miss Vegas.
If you could live in any wine growing region in the world, where would you choose?
I’m already living here. Santa Barbara County.
Nothing beats 300 days of sun and beautiful beach weather. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.
What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
Sports. I’ve played baseball, basketball, wrestling, and football. Still play till this day. I eat, breathe, and sleep sports.
Give us one fun fact about you that no one else knows about you.
I have a need for speed. I used to do wheelies on the freeway and street race when I was younger. Topped out at 170 MPH on my bike. Nothing like a little adrenaline to get your blood pumping!
Yeesh, that sounds intense!
Outside of wine, what is your greatest passion?
Being a dad. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my little 1 year old grow up. His name is Mason and he is the coolest little kid on the planet. Being a dad is the greatest job I’ve ever had. It doesn’t pay well but the benefits make it all worth it.
If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
To be able to read people’s minds so I never have to guess about what’s going on in someone’s head!!
Thanks so much for your time Jon!
My pleasure, glad I could do this.
That’s all for this week. The next time you come visit us at Foxen you’ll have all kinds of fun things to talk to Jon about. Cheers friends and we’ll have another staff member interview next week. Cheers!
